For my final video project, I interviewed Thomas Wilcox, a third-year film student at UNCW, to gain insight into his experiences in the film industry and what drew him to Wilmington. I wanted to explore his perspective on filmmaking, why Wilmington’s film community continues to attract young creators, and how his passion for film first developed. To capture this story authentically, I filmed on location in Wilmington, which required careful planning and shot-listing to ensure I gathered every element I needed in a single visit. This project also gave me the chance to work with professional equipment, including Thomas’s film camera and a gimbal, allowing me to learn new technical skills and experiment with a more cinematic style of shooting. This video reflects both the creative process behind filmmaking and my own growth in planning, filming, and visual storytelling.
This final project was a meaningful way to bring together everything I learned this semester and apply it to a story I was genuinely excited to tell. It reflects both my progress and the direction I hope to continue exploring as a creator.
